Can ChatGPT actually trade on Kalshi?

Updated

No — not on its own. ChatGPT has no built-in link to Kalshi. It can talk about prediction markets, but it cannot see your account, read live prices, or place an order.

A Kalshi MCP plugin adds that connection. In Developer mode, ChatGPT can research live markets, investigate settlement rules, read portfolio data, and place, reduce, and cancel orders against your own Kalshi account, using API keys you generate. Order tools place real orders, and ChatGPT asks you to confirm each one in the chat before it runs.

What ChatGPT can and can't do, versus other clients

The same server connects to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor. ChatGPT access requires Developer mode.

Review real-money order tools

  • No server-initiated trading. The service does not schedule or initiate orders. A trade is sent when the connected client invokes an order tool. ChatGPT asks you to confirm each one; if you let it remember an approval for a conversation, later orders in that conversation run without asking.
  • Non-custodial. Trades settle in your own Kalshi account. We never hold your funds.
  • Dashboard-first credentials. Credentials added through the dashboard are encrypted at rest, used server-side only, and never returned to ChatGPT. The advanced fallback tool passes credentials through chat before encryption.
  • Order-size limits. Per-order contract and value ceilings guard against a fat-fingered or misread instruction.

Kalshi MCP provides software access to your own account. It is not investment advice, and it is not affiliated with Kalshi Inc.

Connecting ChatGPT, step by step

Plugins run on ChatGPT web with Developer mode turned on.

Connection URL
https://kalshi-mcp.com/api/mcp
  1. In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings → Security and login and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Open Plugins, select +, give the plugin a name, paste the connection URL above as the Server URL, keep Authentication on OAuth, tick the acknowledgement, and select Create.
  3. Sign in to your Kalshi MCP account when ChatGPT prompts you. In a new chat, choose Developer mode from the + menu and select the plugin.

When setup or tools fail

Check Developer mode, OAuth, and the plugin's tool list.

Developer mode is missing
Developer mode lives under Settings → Security and login on ChatGPT web, on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu. On a workspace plan its availability follows workspace policy, so ask an admin.
OAuth does not finish
Delete the app and create it again so ChatGPT registers a fresh OAuth client. If a newly created app still fails, email support@kalshi-mcp.com so we can check the server side.
New or changed tools do not appear
Open the plugin at chatgpt.com/plugins and select Refresh so ChatGPT re-reads the tool list, check the tool is switched on in the plugin's details, then start a new chat.
A write action is unavailable
Write actions such as placing an order ask for confirmation before they run — approve the call when ChatGPT shows it. If an order tool is missing entirely, refresh the plugin as above and confirm your Kalshi trading key and a paid Kalshi MCP plan are in place.
Tool calls fail after connection
Confirm OAuth is complete. Research does not require a Kalshi API key; portfolio and trading tools need your keys and a paid Kalshi MCP plan. If calls worked and then stopped, you have likely hit the Free plan's daily allotment, which resets at midnight UTC — ask your AI to show your Kalshi MCP usage, or check the dashboard.

Common questions

Can ChatGPT place a trade on Kalshi?
Not on its own. With the Kalshi MCP plugin in Developer mode, ChatGPT can invoke order tools that use your own Kalshi API keys, and it asks you to confirm each order in the chat before it runs.
Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan?
Yes. Developer mode, which plugins need, is available on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu accounts on ChatGPT web. On workspace plans an admin may need to allow it.
Is ChatGPT as capable here as Claude?
For research, portfolio, and order tools, yes. ChatGPT does not surface guided workflows, and this server's chart and portfolio views have not been verified in ChatGPT.
