Straight answer
Can ChatGPT actually trade on Kalshi?
No — not on its own. ChatGPT has no built-in link to Kalshi. It can talk about prediction markets, but it cannot see your account, read live prices, or place an order.
What changes that is a connector. Point ChatGPT at Kalshi MCP and it works against your own Kalshi account, on API keys you generate yourself: it reads live markets, checks how a market settles, looks at your positions, and drafts an order. Placing it is still your call — you approve every trade, and nothing is ever placed automatically.
What ChatGPT can and can't do, versus other clients
The same server connects to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor. The trading and research capabilities are identical; two conveniences are not.
| Capability | Claude | ChatGPT | Cursor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Research markets, read order books, prices and history | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Check settlement rules before you commit to a position | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| See your own balance, positions, fills and settlements | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Place, reduce and cancel orders — each one you approve | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Interactive charts and a portfolio table rendered in the chatNeeds a host that renders interactive app views inline. | Yes | No | No |
| Guided one-command workflowsChatGPT connectors surface tools only. Cursor documents support; we have not verified its menu path ourselves. | Yes | No | Documented |
You approve every trade
- No autonomous trading. The AI researches and proposes. Nothing is placed, reduced or cancelled without your explicit approval.
- Non-custodial. Trades settle in your own Kalshi account. We never hold your funds.
- Your keys stay yours. Credentials are encrypted at rest, used server-side only, and are never exposed to ChatGPT or any other AI client.
- Order-size limits. Per-order contract and value ceilings guard against a fat-fingered or misread instruction.
Kalshi MCP provides software access to your own account. It is not investment advice, and it is not affiliated with Kalshi Inc.
Connecting ChatGPT, step by step
Roughly five minutes, and you need a paid ChatGPT plan for Developer mode.
https://kalshi-mcp.com/api/mcp- In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and enable Developer mode (available on paid plans).
- Create a connector and paste the Kalshi MCP connection URL below.
- In Advanced OAuth settings, turn OIDC off and leave Registration URL blank.
- Complete OAuth, add your Kalshi API keys, and ask ChatGPT to research a market. After changing connector settings, remove and re-add it.
The full guide lives at /setup/chatgpt. Using Claude or Cursor instead? See /setup/claude and /setup/cursor.
When it doesn't connect
Two ChatGPT-specific settings account for nearly every failed setup.
- The connector won't finish authorizing
- In ChatGPT's Advanced OAuth settings, turn OIDC off and leave the Registration URL blank. With OIDC on, sign-in starts but never completes.
- You changed a connector setting and it stopped working
- Remove the connector and add it again. ChatGPT caches connector settings, so an edit in place often leaves it in a half-configured state.
- Can't find the option to add a connector at all
- Developer mode lives under Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings, and is only available on paid ChatGPT plans.
- Research works, but portfolio and trading tools refuse
- Those need your own Kalshi API keys. Add them in the dashboard — they are stored encrypted server-side and never pass through ChatGPT.
Common questions
- Can ChatGPT place a trade on Kalshi?
- Not by itself. ChatGPT has no built-in connection to Kalshi, so out of the box it can discuss prediction markets but cannot see your account or place an order. Connected to Kalshi MCP as a custom connector, it can read live markets and prepare an order against your own Kalshi account — and you approve every order before it is placed.
- Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan?
- Yes. Custom connectors live behind Developer mode in ChatGPT's Advanced settings, which is available on paid plans only. Claude and Cursor connect the same server without Developer mode.
- Is ChatGPT as capable here as Claude?
- For research, portfolio reads and placing orders, yes — the same tools are available. Two things are thinner: ChatGPT connectors surface tools only, so the guided one-command workflows are not available there, and ChatGPT does not render the interactive charts and portfolio table inline.
