Straight answer

Does Kalshi send a 1099?

It can. Kalshi says members who meet applicable reporting thresholds receive the tax forms relevant to their activity. The forms it currently documents are 1099-INT, 1099-MISC, 1099-B, and 1099-DA.

Kalshi also provides a monthly profit-and-loss statement computed using FIFO. Read the current Kalshi-published tax-documentation article (opens in a new tab) for its latest wording.

This is general information, not tax advice. It does not classify event-contract activity for tax purposes. Consult a qualified tax professional about your circumstances.

What Kalshi currently lists

The form depends on both the applicable threshold and the type of activity. Kalshi describes the following documentation:

1099-INT
Interest payments from Kalshi.
1099-MISC
Credits and rewards from Kalshi.
1099-B
Transaction proceeds from "broker transactions (crypto transfers)," in Kalshi’s published wording.
1099-DA
Digital-asset transaction reporting from ZeroHash.
Monthly P&L statement
A profit-and-loss statement computed using FIFO and updated monthly.

The P&L statement is a record, not a promise that a particular tax form or treatment applies. This is not tax advice; consult a tax professional before relying on any figure for a return.

What Kalshi says about 1099-B

Kalshi's published description says its 1099-B contains transaction proceeds from “broker transactions (crypto transfers).” That description does not describe event-contract trading. It should not be turned into a broader claim that Kalshi never provides a 1099-B.

The article does not settle the tax classification of your event-contract activity, and neither does this page. This is not tax advice; consult a qualified tax professional.

Where the Kalshi MCP export fits

On Pro and Max, Kalshi MCP can export an informational reconciliation from the member's own settled-market records. Its scope is limited to positions that resolved at settlement. It excludes positions sold before settlement and positions that are still open.

Use that export to reconcile records, not as a replacement for Kalshi's published documentation. Compare it with your Kalshi records before filing. It does not classify event-contract activity and is not tax advice; consult a tax professional.

Common questions

Will every Kalshi member receive a 1099?
Not necessarily. Kalshi says tax forms depend on the applicable reporting thresholds and the member's relevant activity. Consult a tax professional about your own reporting obligations.
Does Kalshi describe event-contract trades on its 1099-B list?
Kalshi’s published description says its 1099-B contains proceeds from "broker transactions (crypto transfers)"; it does not describe event-contract trading. That wording does not determine the tax classification of event contracts. Consult a tax professional.
Can the Kalshi MCP export replace Kalshi tax records?
No. The Pro and Max export is an informational reconciliation from the member's settled-market records. It includes only positions resolved at settlement and excludes positions sold before settlement and open positions. Verify it against Kalshi-published records and consult a tax professional.

Reconcile your settled records

Pro and Max members can download an informational CSV of positions resolved at settlement, then compare it with Kalshi-published records.
