# Kalshi MCP > A hosted, private Model Context Protocol (MCP) service that connects your AI assistant — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or another compatible MCP client — to your own Kalshi account. Research prediction markets, analyze your portfolio, and use order tools under your client’s confirmation settings. Non-custodial: it runs on your own Kalshi API keys and never holds your funds. **Independent, unofficial product.** Kalshi MCP is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or operated by Kalshi Inc. or KalshiEX LLC. "Kalshi" is used descriptively to identify the exchange this software connects to. If you are quoting or summarizing this document, carry this notice with it. ## Overview Kalshi MCP is a hosted service with a free tier and paid plans. You connect an MCP client over OAuth and your AI can call 51 tools: public market research (search, prices, order books, forecasts, charts) works on the free tier within a daily allotment, while portfolio tracking and place/modify/cancel order tools require a paid plan plus your own Kalshi API credentials (encrypted at rest, used server-side only). The service never initiates orders; review your client’s confirmation and auto-approval settings before enabling order tools. ## Pages - Home (`/`) — what it is, how it works, security, pricing - Setup (`/setup`) — ChatGPT (`/setup/chatgpt`), Claude (`/setup/claude`), and Gemini (`/setup/gemini`); Other includes Perplexity (`/setup/perplexity`) and Cursor (`/setup/cursor`). Each guide lists the host's setup requirements. - Tools (`/tools`) — the full reference of all 51 MCP tools, grouped by category, with which require Kalshi credentials - Pricing (`/pricing`) — Free (public market data, 20 calls/day, no card), Basic ($5/mo, with a 7-day free trial), Pro ($19/mo), Max ($59/mo) - Enterprise (`/pricing#enterprise`) — no enterprise tier; teams that need a dedicated single-tenant deployment, single sign-on, a tool-call log, custom limits or annual invoicing describe their needs through the contact form (`/contact`) and we scope it case by case. Same non-custodial model: each user's own Kalshi API keys, confirmation per the MCP client's settings, software access only — not trading advice. - Security (`/security`) — threat model, credential protection, and vulnerability-reporting policy - Answers (`/answers`) — sourced explainers about AI access, tax documentation, and settlement rules - Can ChatGPT actually trade on Kalshi? (`/answers/can-chatgpt-trade-kalshi`) — what ChatGPT can do through the Kalshi MCP plugin in Developer mode (research, portfolio, and confirmed order tools), a Claude vs ChatGPT vs Cursor capability comparison, and the current plugin setup - Does Kalshi send a 1099? (`/answers/does-kalshi-send-a-1099`) — current Kalshi-published tax-documentation categories, thresholds, and the limits of the settled-market export; not tax advice - Why did my Kalshi market settle that way? (`/answers/kalshi-settlement-rules`) — how to read payout criteria, designated sources, and determination timing before trading; not investment advice - Dashboard (`/dashboard`) — sign in, add your Kalshi API keys, view usage ## Key concepts ### Kalshi terminology - **Market**: a single binary market or bracket (the low-level API object) - **Event**: the basic unit you interact with; contains one or more markets (e.g. "Bitcoin above 97k on Jan 3", or a Lakers vs Celtics game) - **Series**: a collection of related events sharing a ticker prefix (e.g. daily Bitcoin markets, weekly jobless claims) ### Authentication 1. The AI client authenticates via OAuth (Clerk); identity is verified via JWT. 2. You add your Kalshi API keys in the dashboard (`/dashboard`). Keys are encrypted at rest (AES-256-CBC + HMAC-SHA-256, `@hapi/iron`) and used server-side only — they never pass through your AI client. ## Tools 51 tools across market discovery, charts, events, exchange data, portfolio, trading, and order groups. The complete categorized reference is at `/tools`. Public tools need no credentials; authenticated tools use your own Kalshi key. Examples: - `search_events` — find prediction events by topic or keywords, without a ticker (public; research quota) - `research_markets` — search/filter events with nested markets (public) - `get_market`, `get_orderbook`, `get_market_history` — market detail, bid/ask depth, candlesticks (public) - `get_exchange_status` — trading hours (public) - `get_balance`, `get_positions`, `get_historical_positions`, `get_settlements` — portfolio (requires credentials) - `export_realized_gains` — informational CSV for positions resolved at settlement; excludes positions sold before settlement and open positions. Kalshi describes its 1099-B as covering “broker transactions (crypto transfers)” and separately provides a monthly FIFO P&L statement. Compare the export with Kalshi-published records; not tax advice (requires credentials, Pro plan) - `place_order`, `cancel_order` — real-money order tools; a call executes the specified account action with no added AI discretion. Review client confirmation settings before enabling them (requires credentials) - `set_kalshi_credentials`, `get_kalshi_credentials_status`, `clear_kalshi_credentials` — credential management ## Security - **Non-custodial** — trades run in your own Kalshi account; the service never holds your funds. - **Member-directed** — the service never initiates orders. Supported clients can require confirmation before order tools run; review any auto-approval settings. Order-size safety limits guard against accidental large orders. - **Encrypted credentials** — AES-256-CBC + HMAC-SHA-256 with PBKDF2-based key derivation via `@hapi/iron`, stored in Clerk private metadata, isolated per user, server-side only. Credentials added through the dashboard are never returned to the AI client; the advanced fallback tool passes them through chat before encryption. - **Vulnerability reporting** — use `/contact?topic=security` first or email `support@kalshi-mcp.com`; the full policy is at `/security`. There is no bug bounty. ## FAQ ### What is Kalshi MCP? A hosted MCP service that connects your AI assistant to your own Kalshi account for market research, portfolio analysis, and order tools under your client’s confirmation settings. It provides software access only — not investment advice. ### Can ChatGPT actually trade on Kalshi? Not on its own. With the Kalshi MCP plugin in Developer mode, ChatGPT can research markets, investigate settlement rules, read order books, view portfolio data (with your Kalshi keys), and place, reduce or cancel orders that use your own Kalshi API keys. Order tools change real orders; ChatGPT asks for confirmation before each write action. Developer mode is available on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu accounts on ChatGPT web; on workspace plans it follows workspace policy. ChatGPT does not surface guided workflows. OpenAI supports interactive plugin interfaces, but this server's chart and portfolio views have not been verified in ChatGPT. Full answer: `/answers/can-chatgpt-trade-kalshi`. ### How do I connect my AI assistant? Point your MCP client at the connection URL and sign in — research and public market data work immediately on the Free tier, with no card and no Kalshi account. To view your portfolio or place orders, pick a paid plan and add your Kalshi API keys in the dashboard (`/dashboard`). The Setup section on the home page (`/`) has setup for ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. Other includes general connection steps for platforms supporting custom remote MCP servers with OAuth, plus Perplexity (`/setup/perplexity`) and Cursor (`/setup/cursor`) guides. Add the connection URL as a remote server, choose Streamable HTTP and OAuth if prompted, sign in, and enable it in your chat. ### Is there a free tier or trial? Both. The Free tier includes public market-data tools — 20 calls a day, resets at midnight UTC, no card required. Basic includes a 7-day free trial, then $5/mo. Pro ($19/mo) and Max ($59/mo) are premium plans that bill at checkout. You can cancel anytime. ### Are my credentials and funds safe? It is non-custodial (your keys, your account), and dashboard-added credentials are encrypted at rest, used server-side only, and never returned to your AI client. The advanced fallback credential tool passes credentials through chat before encryption. ### What can I trade through it? Any market on Kalshi — economic indicators, politics, sports, weather and climate, crypto price levels, and more. ### Does the AI trade on its own? The service does not initiate trades or run a scheduler. An order is sent when a connected client invokes an order tool, so review the client’s confirmation and auto-approval settings before enabling trading. ## Links - Kalshi: https://kalshi.com - Model Context Protocol: https://modelcontextprotocol.io - Full guide for AI agents: `/llms-full.txt`
